ABOUT

Rosie Hood is a folk singer songwriter and musician known for her strong, pure voice and captivating performances.

A long time member of The Dovetail Trio, Rosie is a BBC Performing Arts Fellow and was nominated in 2016 for a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award. Immersed in traditional music most of her life, she researches the archives in her native Wiltshire, and has a broad repertoire of local traditional songs. June 2017 saw Rosie release her first full-length solo album The Beautiful & The Actual, to excellent reviews: ‘A classy arrival…rural ballads and poetic class’ * * * * The Guardian; ‘A sublime debut from a wonderful singer’ * * * * RnR.

And in November 2023 The Rosie Hood Band released A Seed Of Gold, recorded & mixed by Tom Wright at The Keystone, Sheffield. Featuring both traditional and newly written material, and drawing inspiration from Rosie’s native Wiltshire including the story of Lyddie Shears, a shape-shifting Wiltshire witch, and Tyger Fierce, a song with tragic consequences about a taunted 18th Century tiger in Malmesbury. Themes of nature and human struggle run through the album and intertwine in Ethel, a song named for national park pioneer Ethel Haythornthwaite who found solace from depression in the countryside, and Marrow Seeds, a re-writing of the traditional song The Seeds of Love following the modern-day migration of people and plants from Syria.

‘To me, the story is always the most important thing, that’s the ‘seed of gold’ within a song’, explains Rosie.
