Hello

Hello! I’m Claire. I run Good Honest Music; the folk & roots music agency I set up at the end of 2019. It exists because I metaphorically stumbled across a traditional folk song, in a field near Farnham almost 3 years ago. More on the backstory another day. In the meantime, thank you for following Good Honest Music and the artists we work with, and I hope you’re having a good day in the world 🌸

Lockdown low-down, April 2020

With spring & summer gigs cancelled, the artists have been turning their creative attention to online performances, collaborations and other activities. Here’s the round up. Please do stay in touch and support them – purchase music, share & like posts, and donate where possible – it all helps hugely.

Faustus

Fans can now sign up to a new and sustainable way to support the trio, plus receive various exclusive benefits via a monthly subscription at the Faustus bandcamp page. You can still buy CD’s, music downloads and merchandise there too of course. ‘Three Broken Down Gentlemen offer you a window into our world, if you really want to see what goes on behind the scenes – you have been warned.’

Jon Wilks

Join Jon on Saturday 18 April at 8pm on facebook for a live concert as part of Oxford Folk Weekend. Also Jon has released two traditional tracks at his YouTube channel and on Bandcamp.

A lovely thing to come out of the current situation is the online collaborations between folk musicians, and a new collaboration between Katherine Priddy, Lukas Drinkwater, Jon Nice and Jon Wilks has proved to be very popular with over 40,000 views in the first week – for good reason – have a listen here to Northern Sky.

Jon continues to research and interview for his ‘Old Songs Podcast’. Together Jon and his guests dive deep into traditional folk songs and those who sung them – the result is an informative delight. Available to listen on Mixcloud; to support the continuation of the podcast you can also choose to become a subscriber. Enjoy!

Benji Kirkpatrick

Join Benji on Wednesday 15 April at 5pm for a livestream concert on Facebook. Take a look over at Benji’s website to Buy CD’s and donate to his ‘tip jar’ (‘If you feel like donating anything here then it would be much appreciated, the amount is entirely up to you. I guess if the content is really bad then you can bill me…‘)

His ‘A video post every now and again’ series has been entertaining followers in a characteristic fashion on Facebook. Catch up easily via YouTube:

Saul Rose

Saul was due to be opening for Eliza Carthy’s Restitute Band as the support act for their tour this month. In lieu of this, he has shared a video every day for the duration of what would have been the tour – viewers are finding the tunes are a joy. Catch up on his Facebook feed and donate here.

Paul Sartin

Join Paul on Friday 17 April at 8.30pm, for a live gig and Q & A as part of Oxford Folk Arts. A rare opportunity to see Paul perform a solo show. Register/buy a ticket

You can also bear witness to Paul’s progress with learning to play the concertina he found in his Uncle & Aunt’s loft at the age of 18. Keep an eye on his facebook page for the latest instalment.

Paul Hutchinson

Keep an eye out for Paul’s musical collaborations at his Facebook page. Other info and CD’s available to buy via Paul’s website.

Read all about it, February 2020

It’s certainly been an energetic start to the year for everyone in the Good Honest Music camp.

Paul, Benji and Saul made a huge impression with the Faustus Antipodean tour in January, which took in Australia, Tasmania & New Zealand; “In a genre where tradition is ever debated, Faustus present an energized and exciting take on traditional folk music. They leave New Zealand the talk of the folk community, with calls for their return already begun.” (Auckland Folk Festival).

Have you discovered the (new) Old Songs Podcast by Jon Wilks? One of the recent episodes featured Paul Sartin and folk song ‘An Acre of Land’. Together Jon and his guests dive deep into trad folk geekery – the result is an informative delight. The podcast is available on Mixcloud – well worth a listen, the first 4 conversational gems were with Jackie Oates, Jim Moray and Ben Walker. You may have some catching up to do!

The new BK & The Excess album is out; “A dynamic & powerful roots-rock album for our age” (FATEA Record magazine) and Benji, Pete & Pete were chuffed to play songs from the album during a brilliant live session for Tom Robinson on BBC Radio 6 Music in February.
